New Mexico State 27, New Mexico 17

Las Cruces, N.M. - Saturday, September 16, 2023

In a tightly contested battle for the Battle of I-25 Rivalry Trophy, the New Mexico State Aggies emerged victorious over the New Mexico Lobos with a final score of 27-17.

The Aggies offense was led by quarterback Jonah Johnson, who threw for 253 yards and two touchdowns. Running back Zavian Barnett added 118 rushing yards and a touchdown for New Mexico State.

The Lobos offense struggled to find its rhythm throughout the game, with quarterback CJ Donaldson completing only 15 of 33 passes for 163 yards and an interception.

Defensively, the Aggies were led by linebacker Chris Ojoh, who recorded 10 tackles. The Lobos defense was highlighted by defensive back Anthony Hooks, who had 12 tackles and an interception.

The win marks the first victory for the Aggies over the Lobos since 2018. It also extends their winning streak to two games after defeating the UTEP Miners last weekend.

With the loss, the Lobos fall to 0-2 on the season. They will look to rebound next week when they travel to El Paso to face the UTEP Miners.

This win is a significant victory for the Aggies program. It gives them early momentum in the season and shows that they are a force to be reckoned with in the Mountain West Conference.
